E-BLUS (The Basic Laparoscopic Urological Skills) is a standardized exam conducted by the European Association of Urology (EAU). Its purpose is to verify laparoscopic knowledge and skills, including hand-eye coordination.

E-BLUS Compatible Module 1 – Needle Guidance

The training module corresponds to one of the exam tasks mentioned. The needle is guided through 10 metal rings along a predetermined path. The order of threading is important, following the numbering and direction indicated on the module, as well as the time taken.

The maximum time to complete the task during the exam is 218 seconds. Throughout the training/exam, the needle must always be held in the needle holder. The goal of the exercise is to develop equal precision in both hands. Additionally, the insert allows for learning how to maneuver the needle in a small space and at various angles. The insert enables multiple, regular training sessions, allowing for skill acquisition and improvement of results.

E-BLUS Compatible Module 2 – Tying Knots

The module is made of durable, soft material that simulates tissue. It allows for learning precise suturing with knot tying both inside and outside.

The exercise involves placing a suture at the location marked by dots. For external knot tying, the knot should be tied outside the trainer and tightened using a knot pusher. For internal suturing, the knot should be tied using appropriate laparoscopic instruments (recommended tools: needle holder and dissector). After completing the suture, the gap should be closed, and the knot should not come undone. A 1 mm deviation from the position of the loop to the black line is allowed.

E-BLUS Compatible Module 3 – Peg transfer

The training module helps to develop the skills of grasping and moving tools in both hands with the same precision.

The elements being transferred must not go out of sight or be dropped. This exercise helps avoid the possibility of damaging organs within the human body when the instrument (e.g., with a needle) disappears from our field of vision. The recommended tools for this exercise are a dissector and a grasper. The insert can be cleaned with a damp, soft cloth.

Cutting Circles Module + Universal Holder

Training on this module allows for precise practice of cutting technique. This module will help prepare for one of the tasks in the FLS and E-BLUS exams.

During the FLS exam, the participant has 300 seconds to cut 3 circles. And 300 seconds to cut one circle during the E-BLUS exam.
